Our mission at PCS is simple: provide the highest quality, evidence-based counseling services to individuals, couples, and families with an emphasis on meeting the client’s needs first and foremost.
We offer a range of therapies from counselors who pursue certification and expertise. We also stress innovation at PCS, because we can do better! It is this attitude of innovation that brought the first full protocol DBT program to the region, which remains the only full protocol program in the area. The same innovation spurred our full protocol PCIT program and the development of The Hope Institute.
The following is not all-inclusive of what we do but highlights some of our industry leading practices!
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
DBT is a mindfulness-based therapy that provides clients skills in regulating their emotions, tolerating stress and distress, maintaining healthy relationships, and thinking from perspectives other than their own. We were the first and are still the only full protocol DBT facility in the region. Clients seeking DBT at our practice have access to individual sessions, skills sessions (available in traditional group format, but also family and individual formats to promote best practices and accessibility for all), and phone coaching. Our DBT program is also available in-person or via telehealth, as we know how limited DBT is as a resource and want it to be accessible to as many as possible. We currently have four group skills sessions running: two for adolescents and two for adults. PCS is home to a DBT team with several counselors who are certified and collaborate not only with each other, but with facilities and experts across the country. DBT is one of the most researched models of therapy and holds one of the strongest evidence bases in mental health.
CAMS (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality)
CAMS is first and foremost a clinical philosophy of care, and CAMS is part of our standard training at PCS. It is a therapeutic framework for suicide-specific assessment and treatment of a patient’s suicidal risk. It is a flexible approach that can be used across theoretical orientations and disciplines for a wide range of suicidal patients across treatment settings and different treatment modalities. PCS hold the honor and distinction of being the first CAMS Approved facility, and CAMS is one of only four treatments recognized by The Joint Commission and SAMHSA as evidence based. One of our clinicians is also the first ever CAMS Certified clinician!
PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy)
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children who are experiencing behavioral problems. In its first phase, PCIT helps to build rapport in the parent-child relationship that helps that child feel calm and secure in the relationships with their parents and good about themselves. In its second phase of treatment, parents are equipped with the tools to help manage their child’s most challenging behaviors. Contact us to learn more about PCIT!
Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT)
RO DBT targets a spectrum of difficulties that are characterized by excessive self-control, which can be referred to as over control. PCS has a growing team of clinicians trained in RO DBT to help clients learn skills in becoming more receptive and open, gain flexibility, and improve social connections with others. To support individual RO DBT therapy we currently have two skills classes available, an evening and a daytime option. Visit Radicallyopen.net for additional information on RO DBT. (We are not currently accepting new RO DBT clients.)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is effective in relieving the stress associated with traumatic memories and negative beliefs. This is done by using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, that can replicate the process that occurs during the Rapid Eye Movement phase of sleep. PCS is home to a number of therapists trained in EMDR.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
The Gottman Method teaches couples how to implement interventions to help strengthen the weak areas in the partnership. Whether you’re experiencing high levels of conflict or are looking to strengthen the relationship with your partner, counseling with the Gottman Method can help. Gottman has decades of research and evidence making it a cornerstone of couple's work.
